Erica Eng and July Jung have been selected as the U.S. and international recipients, respectively, of the 2023 Academy Gold Fellowship for Women.  Part of the Academy Gold global talent development and inclusion initiative, the Fellowship for Women is a one-year program that combines direct support, personalized mentorship and access to once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities for emerging women filmmakers to further their pursuits in the field.  The Academy currently awards two fellowships annually, one in the U.S. and one internationally, each with a prize amount of $35,000.  The fellowship, presented for the second year in partnership with CHANEL, is now in its sixth year.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces the seventh year of Academy Gold Rising, a career development program for students and young professionals from underrepresented communities.  Gold Rising works with various studios and industry organizations to provide educational programs, career preparation sessions, and networking and mentorship opportunities with Academy members and industry professionals.  Gold Rising helps college seniors, recent graduates and young professionals acquire the knowledge, skills and connections to achieve success as they navigate in front of and behind-the-camera careers in film.  This year, 90 students and 21 film and entertainment companies will participate in the program.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in partnership with Mercury Studios, today announced the launch of the Jonas Gwangwa Music Composition Initiative, a one-year career development program for Black British musicians interested in composing music for film.  In celebration of the late South African musician, composer and Oscar® nominee Jonas Gwangwa, the program will provide real-world experience, one-on-one mentorship and networking opportunities, beginning in October 2022.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is proud to announce commitments from four additional industry partners – AMC Networks, Moving Picture Institute, Telsey + Company, and Xperi – to participate in Academy Gold, an entertainment industry-wide internship enhancement and mentorship program for students and young professionals from underrepresented communities.  Each of the now 26 partners will sponsor up to three of their interns for the program, which kicked off on Thursday, June 21, with a two-day orientation that included various industry speakers, studio and technology-based company tours and visits to the Academy’s Film Archive and Margaret Herrick Library.

In June, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will launch Academy Gold, a new entertainment industry-wide summer internship and mentoring program that will expand opportunities for students and young professionals from underrepresented communities.  This initiative will afford top film entertainment, technology, production services and digital media companies an opportunity to recruit and educate a nationwide pool of diverse talent.  The Academy also will build an alumni database to track the professional development of Academy Gold participants and provide a resource to connect alumni with one another upon completion of the program.
