ACADEMY TO HIGHLIGHT NOMINEES AT OSCAR WEEK EVENT SERIES

In the week leading up to the 91st Oscars®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a series of public programs celebrating this year’s nominees in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Animated and Live Action Short Film categories.  Events will be held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The Oscar Week schedule is as follows:

OSCAR WEEK: DOCUMENTARIES
Tuesday, February 19, 7:30 p.m.
Samuel Goldwyn Theater

Hosted by Academy Documentary Branch Governors Rory Kennedy and Roger Ross Williams

Kennedy received an Oscar nomination for the documentary feature “Last Days in Vietnam.”  Her other directing credits include “Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton,” “Ethel” and “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib.”  Williams won an Oscar for the documentary short subject “Music by Prudence” and received a second Oscar nomination for the documentary feature “Life, Animated.” His other credits include “God Loves Uganda,” “Blackface” and “Take Back the Harbor.”

OSCAR WEEK: SHORTS
Wednesday, February 20, 7:00 p.m.
Samuel Goldwyn Theater

Hosted by Academy Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Governors Jon Bloom and Tom Sito

Bloom produced and directed the live action short “Overnight Sensation,” which earned him an Oscar nomination.  He founded his production company, BloomFilm, in 1987 after two decades in the entertainment industry.  Sito, a professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, has worked on numerous films, including “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “Shrek,” “Osmosis Jones” and “Garfield.”

Please note this event is sold out. There will be a stand-by line at the west doors of the building (nearest Almont Drive) on the evening of the program.  Stand-by numbers will be given out at approximately 5 p.m. The number of stand-by tickets available (if any) will be determined shortly before the start of the event.

OSCAR WEEK: FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM

Hosted by Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee chairs Larry Karaszewski and Diane Weyermann

Karaszewski is a screenwriter best known for his collaborations with Scott Alexander.  Their feature film credits include “Ed Wood,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Man on the Moon” and "Big Eyes.”  Most recently, Karaszewski worked on FX’s “American Crime Story.” Weyermann is a producer whose numerous credits include the documentaries “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” “CitizenFour” and “Food, Inc.” She recently executive-produced “American Factory,” which was shown in the U.S. Documentary competition at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

OSCAR WEEK: ANIMATED FEATURES

Hosted by Academy Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Governor Bonnie Arnold

Arnold, a producer at DreamWorks Animation, produced the Oscar-nominated films “How to Train Your Dragon” and “How to Train Your Dragon 2.”  Her additional producing credits include Pixar’s landmark movie “Toy Story,” Disney’s “Tarzan” and DreamWorks’ upcoming “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.”  She served as co-president/president of feature animation at DreamWorks Animation from 2015 to 2017.

OSCAR WEEK: MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING SYMPOSIUM
Saturday, February 23, 3:00 p.m.

Hosted by Academy Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch Governors Kathryn L. Blondell, Lois Burwell and Leonard Engelman

Blondell is a BAFTA-winning hairstylist for “The Aviator.”  Her other film credits include “The Revenant,” “Django Unchained,” “Inception,” Shampoo” and “Harold and Maude.”  Burwell won an Oscar for her work on “Braveheart” and was nominated for “Saving Private Ryan.”  Her other feature credits include “Lincoln” and “The Princess Bride.”  Engelman has served as a makeup artist on such features as “Burlesque,” “Heat,” “Moonstruck,” “Rocky IV” and “Ghostbusters.”  =

In Oscar Week’s final public event, the nominees in the Makeup and Hairstyling category (schedules permitting) will reveal the secrets behind their on-screen work.  Photographs, appliances, molds, wigs and other items will be on display in the theater lobby.

Tickets are now available online at Oscars.org.  Tickets to the Documentaries, Shorts, Foreign Language Film and Animated Features events are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID (Shorts and Foreign Language Films tickets limited to four per person).  Admission to the Saturday afternoon Makeup and Hairstyling event is free, but advance tickets are required (limited to two per person).  Doors open one hour prior to each event.  All ticketed seating is unreserved.  For more information, visit Oscars.org or call (310) 247-3600.

The 91st Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network.  The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
